He begrudging goes to the 20th reunion and has such an amazing time he finds himself wondering "If I knew then what I know now" and offers the entire grad class one year's salary to come back and do one more month of the 12th grade.。堂山和下妻两家老大剑拔弩张，蒙在鼓里的座头市（胜新太郎饰）被堂山请去助拳，半路斩杀了前来挑衅的下妻家三武士。失去引路人的阿市独自上路，期间营救了遭武士欺侮追杀的江户鸣海屋的小姐美津（藤村志保饰）。受女孩死去的爷爷所托，阿市决定护送美津返回江户。谁知三武士之一的妻子阿久（藤原礼子饰）衔恨座头市，想尽各种办法拐走美津。有信有义的阿市拼尽全力保护美津，在这一过程中身份和地位存在巨大差距的二人也渐渐产生好感。 清醒认识到和女孩的差距，阿市克制着自己的情感。当旅途渐渐到达终点，一切矛盾都到了爆发的时候……。
