Medeas is a daring and lyrical exploration of alienation and desperation through the intimate observation of a family's inner lives and their relationship to each other and their environment. Without moral judgment, it probes the boundaries of human behavior and the lengths to which people can be driven for love and self-preservation.。上世纪九十年代末，中国大约有四五千万产业工人下岗，涉及的家庭人口更是数以亿计，贺国平就是其中一位。下岗后，妻子开出租，他成为天天炒菜做饭的“家庭主夫”，儿子贺奂也由嬉耍顽皮的孩子长大成人。二十年对这个普通家庭的跟踪拍摄，这个持续“在场”，让电影产生了“看见草生长”的时间触角。有人说，这是一部“平民史诗”。。
