However, i...。国际航空公司的副驾驶员新海元（木村拓哉 饰）一直梦想成为机长。在一次从火奴鲁鲁飞回日本的飞行上，机长水岛突然感到身体不适导致无法继续驾驶。这种突发的危机时刻，因为新海的冷静判断，致使飞机安全降落。因为过失，新海遭到了检察官香田一树（堤真一 饰）的严厉责备和女机械师绪川步实（柴崎幸 饰）的不满。新海感到十分受挫情绪低落。 水岛机长因为身体原因，决定完成最后一次飞行就退休。香田不放心水岛的身体和新人新海，决定陪同他们一起飞行。在飞行过程中，香田见证了新海的专业能力和判断力，对新海有了不用以往的认识。但行事严厉的香田依然秉持赏罚分明的态度，对违反了规定的新海给予停飞一星期的处分，这遭到了新海的不满。一出出航空公司的故事在这里起飞降落。。
