At first I had a hard time getting into the story, because the first part of the movie is a jumble of images-- and...。根据周克芹同名小说改编。 故事发生在1975年冬天的川西葫芦坝。许茂老汉的四姑娘许秀云拒绝了三姐秋云给她说妥的婚事。不肯改嫁，引起了父亲和姐妹们的不满。他们哪里知道，温顺贤良的秀云同情遭受丧妻和撤职双重打击的大姐夫——原大队支书金东水，爱怜死去的大姐丢下的孩子，心里舍不下他们。县里派颜少春带着工作组进村搞整顿。造反起家、与秀云离了婚的大队副支书郑百如感觉到政治气候变了，急忙装模作样地向许茂老汉和许家姐妹检讨赔情，又星夜闯入秀云住的小屋，要求复婚，遭到秀云的蔑视和拒绝。阴险狡诈的郑百如遂大肆…。
